Kasauli is a beautiful and picturesque cantonment town located in the Solan district in Himachal Pradesh. Kasauli was established during British Rule and lies around 77 kilometres away from Shimla. Ambala Cantonment in Haryana lies around 94 kilometres away from Kasauli while Chandigarh is located approximately 65 kilometres away from it. Kasauli is located at a height of 6, 322 ft. Solan: The Mushroom City of India
Solan is the biggest municipal council of Himachal Pradesh and is the district headquarters of the Solan district. It is 46 kilometres from Shimla, the state capital. The city is known as the mushroom city of India because of its vast tracts of land being under mushroom cultivation and the Directorate of Mushroom Research being located here. The city is also called the City of Red Gold, for the tomatoes produced in bulk in the city. Solan is located along the Shimla Kalka National Highway 22. The heritage Shimla Kalka narrow gauge railway line passes through here.
Transportation
Solan can be accessed easily via train and roadways. Chandigarh is 68 kilometres away from here and takes two hours to reach via buses. Shimla is 48 kilometres from here and can be reached within an hour. If one takes the railways from Kalka, then there are forty four railway tunnels till Solan. For intercity and interstate transport, the HRTC buses are available from the Solan depot. They ply to cities such as Kangra, Hamirpur, Shimla, Bilaspur and Sirmour. Interstate travels supported by the HRTC include Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh.
To reach Solan by air, one would have to reach the Shimla Airport, 48 kilometres away.
Economy
Solan is considered to be Himachal Pradesh&rsquo;s industrial hub. The Nalagarh is a Pharma hub where quite a few pharmaceutical companies are present. The area is developed due to the special subsidies offered for the area by the central government since 1999. The city is also emerging as an educational hub. A UK based MNC, Xchanging Technology Limited is also located here. They employ close to 200 people and are expected to grow more.
Solan is also a hub for tourism as it is a gateway to areas such as Kasauli. Solan real estate is flourishing and is emerging as a major contributor to the city&rsquo;s economy. Developers such as Janta Land Promoters and Sandwoods Infratech have projects coming up in Solan.
Lifestyle
Being a city developed by the British, Solan has basic infrastructure such as schools, hospitals and markets in place. Some of the reputed schools of the city include St. Luke&rsquo;s Senior Secondary School, Doon Valley Public School, and MRA DAV Senior Secondary Public School etc. They are usually affiliated to CBSE and ICSE.
Healthcare facilities in the city are well-developed as both private and public hospitals are there in the city. Him Medicare Centre at Mall Road and Child Hospital JP Bisht at Kotla Nala are two hospitals that visited most by locals. Solan has a number of markets and shopping zones such as Ganj Bazaar, Lakkar Bazaar, Dang Mall, City Center Plaza, Platinum Mall and Anand Cineplex Mall. The city also has relaxation zones that cater to children and adults alike. The Jawahar Park on top of the hill is known for its rose gardens while the Mohan Park by Chambaghat Road is decorated by paintings and fountains. These areas are visited by locals on off-days.
Prices of property in Solan are quite high as the apartment culture is yet to catch up with the city. Most of the new developments are coming up in Kainthri, Baddi and Chandog. The rate for Solan property is between Rs 1800 and 2500 per sq. ft. However, price of property in Kasauli is significantly higher at Rs 6500 to 12000.
