Solapur
Situated towards the southeast of Maharashtra, Solapur is administratively a part of Pune division. It is on the main rail and road route between Hyderabad and Mumbai. A branch line from here goes into Gadag and Bijapur in Karnataka. The House Rent Allowance Classification of the Indian Government classifies it is a B2 and Tier II city. The city is India&rsquo;s 49th most populous one.

Transportation
Railways are the main mode of transportation in Solapur. The Solapur Railway Division is important in connecting south India to northwest and west India. Some of the trains that halt here include Bangalore Solapur Express, Goa Solapur Express, Jaipur Solapur Superfast Express.
When it comes to roadways as well, Solapur is well connected to Telengana&rsquo;s capital, Hyderabad and important urban areas of Karnataka by four important National Highways. NH9 connects Vijaywada with Pune through Hyderabad while Mangalore is connected to Solapur via NH13. The NH204 connects Nagpur to Ratnagiri via Solapur. The NH211 connect Dhule to Solapur. A part of the NH13 has been proposed to be upgraded to four lanes.
Solapur has its own airport towards the south of the city. However, no carrier operates in the airport.
Economy
Solapur is a leading centre for power looms and cotton mills in Maharashtra. Towels and chadars from Solapur are famous and have received the Geographical indication tag. The city is also home to Asia&rsquo;s biggest and the world&rsquo;s second biggest spinning mill. Being along the South North Railway Line, Solapur serves as a good base for industries in terms of logistics. There are 8986 small and 98 medium industries located in the city. The Solapur Raichur Power Transmission line has a power capacity of 765 kV. It suffices the requirement of southern states such as Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Solapur also has several research institutes such as Science Centre in Kegaon (considered Maharashtra&rsquo;s third biggest scientific association) and National Research Centre on Pomegrate.
Another important industry of Solapur is tourism as the area is renowned as Dakshin Kashi. Pandharpur is a site of pilgrimage which is 72 kilometres from Solapur via Road. The Siddeshwar Temple is also an attraction for tourists in the district. The Hazrat Shah Zahur Dargah is also located here which attracts thousands of devotees a year.
Lifestyle
The lifestyle offered in Solapur for residents is a holistic one. The city is home to two medical colleges, fourteen engineering colleges and a dental college. There are also forty colleges within the boundaries of the city. The Shivaji University&rsquo;s branch at Solapur has three functional departments on Electronics, Applied Physics and Polymer Chemistry. Health care facilities in Solapur are well developed as well. Both private and public hospitals make up the healthcare system of the city. Some of the reputed private hospitals are Ambika Hospital in Murarji Peth and Unique Hospital in Budhawar Peth.
Solapur real estate is now expanding to encompass plot based developments and apartment clusters. The price for property in Solapur is between Rs 2500 and 5000 per sq. ft.
