Tirupati : Best Heritage City
Tirupati is a part of the Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh. It is the headquarters of the Tirupati Mandal and Tirupati Revenue Division. The city is the ninth largest one according to population in Andhra Pradesh. The Tirumala Venkateswara Temple is 20 kilometres towards the north of Tirupata on the Tirumala Hills. The city is also known for its various universities and educational institutions. It was crowned the Best Heritage City in 2012-13 by the Ministry of Tourism. For its potent tourism industry
Transportation
Tirupati Main is the railway station that connects it to various Indian cities. It is a part of the South Central Railway Zone and Guntakal Railway Division. The city is also linked to the Chennai Suburban Railway&rsquo;s North Line. The Renigunta Junction which is along the Mumbai Chennai Railway Corridor is 15 kilometres from here. Other railway stations close by include Tiruchanur, Tirupati West and Chandragiri.
The Tirupati Airport is 15 kilometres from the centre of the city and has regular flights to New Delhi, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi and Hyderabad. The closest international airport is in Chennai, 130 kilometres away.
For intercity and inter district commutes, buses operated by private companies and the APSRTC are available. The Sri Hari Bus Station is one of the biggest bus stations of the state. Buses from here depart for Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Vellore, Chennai, Bangalore and Visakhapatnam. Because of its proximity to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, buses operated by the TNSTC and KSRTC are available too. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam runs free bus services between the Central Bus Stand and Railway Station.
Economy
Tourism is the main revenue earner for Tirupati. The economy of the city is dependent entirely on the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. It manages the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple and all temples under the Tirupati trust all over the world. The hospitality industry is quite big in the city as there are several lodges and even three star hotels.
The APIIC Industrial Park located in Renigunta has several companies based here such as Sri Venkateswara Cooperative Sugar Factory Limited and AshwiniBio Pharma Ltd. The Amara Raja Factory is situated in Karakambadi, near Renigunta while the Lanco Cement Factory is in Eerpedu Mandal. Most of the residents are employed under the TTD which looks after the welfare of the city.
Lifestyle
The social infrastructure of Tirupati is well developed as the TTD has established several hospitals, schools and welfare centres. The Sri Venkateswara Ram Narayan Ruia Government Hospital is the main public hospital in the Rayalseema area. The Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences was founded in 1986 by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams along the pattern of AIIMS for quality treatment. The Balaji Institute of Surgery, Research and Rehabilitation for the Disabled is a one of a kind of hospital founded in 1985 with 250 beds.
The notable educational institutions of the area are Sri Venkateswara University, Sri Padavati Mahila Viswavidyalayam, Sri Venkateswara Vedic University and the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha. Tirupati has several shopping districts such as AIR Bypass Road, VV Mahal Road, Prakasam Road and Gandhi Road.
The demand for property in Tirupati is high among devotees of the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, who want to own a second home in the city to live in whenever they visit. Prominent developers working on Tirupati property are GK Shelters and Marg Ltd. Mostly 2 and 3BHK villas and apartment enclaves make up Tirupati real estate.
